Læsø AiR

Open Call 2023

It is with great pleasure that Læsø Artist in Residence (Læsø AiR) can now open up the second round of applications for Danish and foreign artists who wish to apply for a residency at Læsø in 2023. The residency will take place in Per Kirkeby and Asger Jorn’s unique, former artist residences on Læsø.

“It is a great joy for us to receive artists on a work stay, and an even greater joy to see how important Læsø is as material and inspiration for the artists’ work. Many of the artists have left Læsø with newly created projects and ideas, which have spread around the world in a short time”, says chairman of Læsø Art and Culture, Trygve Natvig.

work stay at Læsø AiR includes in 2023:
Stay in studio and accommodation in Per Kirkeby and Asger Jorn’s former artist residences, Haabet and Bangsbohave, located in scenic surroundings on Læsø
Coverage of travel costs (economy class) Læsø round trip
A monthly stipend of DKK 7500/EUR 1000 to cover living costs, transport and costs for materials and production during the stay
Visiting program/mentoring scheme in Denmark for foreign artists
Local host and knowledge group for introduction and networking
Holding 2-3 “Open Atelier” events with the artist’s participation during the stay on Læsø
Periods for working stays in 2023

Professional Danish visual artists can apply for stays of 4 and 6 weeks. Professional foreign (non-Danish) visual artists can apply for a stay of 12 weeks. A Danish and a foreign artist participate in the program at the same time when staying in Per Kirkeby’s artist residence (see specific periods on the  website ).

A prioritization of desired periods of stay will be possible via the digital application form.

who can apply?
In accordance with Læsø AiR’s purpose, professional Danish and foreign (non-Danish) visual artists who can document experience with exhibitions and previous collaborations with curators at a professional level can apply for residency at Læsø AiR. For Danish artists it applies that they live in Denmark and primarily participate in the Danish art scene, and for foreign artists it applies that they reside abroad and primarily participate in art scenes abroad.

In order to accommodate exchanges between Danish and foreign artists, Læsø AiR in 2023 will primarily receive applications from individual artists for reasons of space. We are working on developing Læsø AIR and accommodating future stays for artist groups.

The selected residents will have the opportunity to bring their immediate family for a shorter period by agreement with Læsø AiR. The costs of this are covered by the resident.

It is not allowed to bring pets.

It is a requirement for resident applicants that they can speak English.
