Danish Commission Proposal Call

Open Call: Artistic landmarks for the Mejeriet Cultural Center in Tar, Denmark. Do you want to leave a significant artistic mark on the end of a 13-year transformation? Kulturhuset Mejeriet invites professional artists to submit proposals for two significant artistic assignments:

1. a sculptural welcome at the main entrance
2. an engaging ceramic facade decoration.

About the project
After extensive restoration, the historic dairy from 1914 now appears as a vibrant cultural center and gathering point in Tarm, run by local volunteers. With this art project, we want to mark the completion of the transformation and at the same time strengthen the visual and experiential connection between the Dairy and the West Health Center.

The dairy provides a setting for a wide range of activities, including concerts, lectures, cultural school lessons, choir singing and workshop activities in visual arts, ceramics, embroidery and weaving. The new artworks will – in conjunction with signage, planting and lighting – contribute to making the house visible, welcoming visitors and supporting the place’s identity as an open, creative and inclusive community.

We are looking for one or two professional artists to realize the works. The two works may be part of an artistic dialogue. If the tasks are carried out by two different artists, collaboration is to be expected.

The selection is made by a professional committee with representation from the Arts Council of Ringkøbing-Skjern Municipality

Task 1: Sculpture at the main entrance (Landmark)
We are looking for an artist to create a distinctive sculpture that functions as a visual landmark and the Dairy’s public face.

Location: At the main entrance, to the right of the entrance area.

Vision: A contemporary and inviting work with a clear artistic idiom that signals openness, creativity and friendliness.

Requirements: Materials and construction must be robust and suitable for permanent placement in public spaces.

Budget: DKK 75.000 including fee, materials, foundation/base, transport and set-up (set-up can be done in collaboration with the Dairy’s volunteers).

Task 2: Ceramic facade decoration (Process and work)
The dairy houses an active ceramics workshop. We want an artistic facade decoration that unites professional artistic practice with the site’s existing creative environment.

Location: Gable facade between the building’s entrances.

Vision: A ceramic work that creates a visual connection between the interior life of the house and its exterior architecture.

Process: The artist is responsible for the artistic design and process management, including the possibility of including elements produced in collaboration with users of the Dairy’s ceramics workshop.

Budget: DKK 60.000 including fee, materials, firing (can be done in the Dairy’s oven), transport and assembly (can be done in collaboration with the Dairy’s volunteers).
