Monsignor Otto Mauer Prize
Call for applications
Continuing the concerns of Msgr. Otto Mauer (1907-1973), who has gained international recognition through his commitment to contemporary art and young artists, the Otto Mauer Fund will award the Msgr. Otto Mauer Prize for visual arts for the forty-second time at the end of the year (Painting, graphics, sculpture, objects, installations, new media).
The prize is endowed with € 11,000 and is associated with an exhibition of the prizewinner in the Jesuit Foyer (1010 Vienna) as well as extensive press work. In the interest of continuing the Otto Mauer Collection in the Dom Museum Wien, the Otto Mauer Fund intends to acquire a representative work by the award winner.
The jury for the Msgr. Otto Mauer Prize 2022 consists ofDorit Margreiter, Stella Rollig, Johanna Schwanberg, Maja Vukoje and Gustav Schörghofer SJ.
Raising the maximum age for applicants
The Otto Mauer Fund is raising the maximum age for applicants for the Msgr. Otto Mauer Prize to 45 years, thereby taking into account longer educational paths and any waiting periods.
Between 10.-12. From October 2022 there will be an opportunity to submit applications for the award, which is intended to recognize the work of the award-winning artist to date. Austrian citizens and German-speaking Italian citizens who were born in the province of Bozen, as well as people whose normal place of residence has been in Austria for at least five years, are eligible to apply. Applicants must not have reached the age of 45 on December 31, 2022(ie born in 1978 and younger); if several artists apply together as a group, no member of this group may exceed this age limit. Every application is made to the exclusion of legal recourse.
Documentation that enables an assessment of the artistic work to date (catalogs, photos, texts, videos; no originals) and a CV of the artist must be submitted. These documents are marked with name, address, telephone number, date of birth and the inscription “Msgr. Otto Mauer Prize 2021” and from 10.-12. October 2022 between 10.00 a.m. and 1.00 p.m. and 4.00 p.m. and 5.30 p.m.
The Otto Mauer Fund accepts no liability whatsoever for the documents submitted. The documents submitted form the basis for the assessment by the jury. If no work appears to be worthy of a prize, no prize will be awarded.
