Arab Artist Call

Arts Fellows
Mophradat’s Arts Fellows program is a twelve-week part-time training program at an international art institution. The program is for young curators, arts managers, arts producers, and arts administrators of the Arab diaspora in and outside of the Arab world (including recent migrants and refugees). It is intended to enable them develop their knowledge, skills, and professional networks in their adopted context.

Eligible fellows will have been living in the city where the program is taking place for no less than a year and speaks a local language. Mophradat provides each Art Fellow with a stipend during the program. (Please note that this opportunity is not a residency program for artists.)

For its second edition in the fall 2018, we are collaborating with three new partners:

Contour Biennale, Mechelen

Since 2003, Contour Biennale has engaged with local and international artists focused on the moving image and its expanded representation through installation, sound, and performance. Projects presented during the upcoming Contour Biennale 9, Coltan as Cotton, will be inspired by and relate to the city of Mechelen and its inhabitants. While earlier editions ran for ten weeks, for this biennale curator Nataša Petrešin-Bachelez has proposed a continuum of three major public moments and several other happenings between September 2018 and October 2019.

OFF-Biennale, Budapest

Launched in 2014, OFF-Biennale Budapest is Hungary’s largest civil independent arts initiative. Organized on a grassroots basis by a micro-association, it is a DIY biennale based on self-organization and collaboration among artists, curators, cultural and civil organizations, galleries, students and more. Aiming to strengthen the local art scene and enhance the culture of democracy, OFF-Biennale does not apply for state funding and steers clear of state-run art institutions.

Portikus, Frankfurt

Since its foundation in 1987 as a fundamental element of the art academy Städelschule, Portikus has been dedicated to exhibiting, publishing, and discussing young and emerging as well as established artists and their work. With at least five exhibition per year, Portikus presents a multitude of artistic practices in group shows and solo presentations from a wide international background, as well as producing publications, editions, and an online journal.
