Applications open for SUPERMARKET 2019

SUPERMARKET is an international artist-run art fair that provides a showcase of artists’ initiatives from all over the world with the aim to display their unique projects and ideas, create opportunities for new networks on the Swedish and international art scene, and share the passion and vitality that are present in this sphere of the art world.

SUPERMARKET has been arranged since 2007 by a small group of organisers most of whom are artists themselves. Supermarket is a development of Minimarket, which was held at Konstnärshuset in February 2006 in reaction to the new commercial art fair Market.

Initiated and organised by artists, this project has rapidly evolved from a modest group of local initiatives to a full-fledged international art exhibition that has made its mark and helped firmly establish Stockholm on the art world map. In 2015–17, SUPERMARKET was held in Svarta Huset at Telefonplan.
In 2018, we took over a new venue ‘Slaughterhouse 5’ in Slakthusområdet (the Meatpacking district) near Ericsson Globe.

International network
SUPERMARKET has altogether featured exhibitors from more than 50 countries, all part of a growing international trend of artist-run galleries, project spaces, artist collectives and other artists’ initiatives.

With its vibrant events programme, SUPERMARKET is not just a regular art fair. Besides the main exhibition we offer Supermarket TALKS & Performance programme, Supermarket MEETINGS, the Professional Networking Participants programme and our internationally distributed Supermarket Art Magazine.

Why an art fair for artist-run galleries?
It is becoming increasingly common for artists to take matters into their own hands and set up galleries and project spaces. SUPERMARKET is an arena for such artist-run initiatives. The aim is for SUPERMARKET to be a place where a wider public can become a part of what is happening on the artist-run scene. SUPERMARKET wants to offer the visitor an exhibition with unexpected meetings and experiences rather than focusing on sales.

SUPERMARKET 2019 will be held 4–7 April 2019.
Applications: From 1–31 October 2018 we welcome artist-run spaces to apply online at
The pre-selection results will be announced in November.

Applications to SUPERMARKET Talks & Performance programme will open on 1 December 2018.
Applications to Professional Networking Participants’ programme (PNP) will open on 1 December 2018.

SUPERMARKET Forum is a day-long networking event for the exhibitors, staff and invited guests – curators and art organisers from the Swedish art sector. The programme allows the exhibitors to meet representatives of the local art scene, present their projects in depth and talk to other participants and guests within a simple framework focused on establishing new connections.
SUPERMARKET Forum will take place on Thursday 4 April 10–17. During this time, the art fair will be closed to the public.
The programme will be followed by public opening of the art fair from 18–22.

SUPERMARKET 2019 theme is ’Temporary Moratorium: All allowed?’
