Skaftfell, est. 1998 and based in Seyðisfjörður East Iceland, is a visual art center with the essential role of presenting, discoursing and encouraging the development of contemporary art. It is a meeting point for artists and locals and its activities are based upon exhibitions and events, alongside an international residency and outreach program. Skaftfell is also the guardian of a minuscule house previously owned by a local naive artist Ásgeir Emilsson (1931-1999). In March 2013 Skaftfell received an Icelandic award, Eyrarrósin, for outstanding cultural leadership in a rural area.

Skaftfell Center for Visual Art in Seyðisfjörður, Iceland is offering three two-month residency grants in 2021, courtesy of the Nordic Baltic Mobility Programme. These grants are available for artists from Denmark, Estonia, Faroe Islands, Finland, Greenland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Sweden, and Åland.
The available dates are Available dates are: 8 January – 8 March 2021; 1 April – 31 May 2021; and 1 September – 30 October 2021.
