Schlossmediale Call for Art Residency 2027 invites three solo artists to a five-week residency at Werdenberg Castle in the canton of St.Gallen, Switzerland. The works they develop will be shown in the castle during the 14th Schlossmediale, an international festival of early music, new music and audiovisual art.
The residency runs from 17 May to 27 June 2027, with the festival taking place on 17–26 June 2027. The 2027 theme is “KLATSCH!” (Rumour-Impact): sound and rumour, applause and gossip, oral tradition, collective memory, and the ways every era spreads its information.
Each resident receives:
• CHF 4,000 grant
• CHF 1,000 for travel, transport and meals
• Up to CHF 1,000 for material costs
• Accommodation in a shared house in Werdenberg (individual rooms, shared kitchen, living areas and bathroom)
Eligible mediums include sound art, sound studies, audiovisual art, experimental instrument building, visual art, installation, sculpture, land art and performance. Sound installations without a visual dimension will not be considered.
Who it’s for:
• Solo artists with professional experience; groups and duos are not eligible
• Artists ready to live and work on site for the full residency period
• Artists who can complete a finished, functional work by the festival opening
• Residents also present their work on castle tours and attend the entire festival
Working space at the castle is limited and no studios are provided.
