Copenhagen Photo Festival invites photographers and visual artists worldwide to submit bold and imaginative projects for solo exhibitions at the heart of the festival. The selected solo artists will have the unique opportunity to showcase their work as part of the festival’s main exhibition program.
For the 2027 edition we invite artists and photographers to engage with the overarching theme ‘Frie hænder | Free Hands’. We encourage you to explore how our free, creative agency unfolds in the world and through photography.
The theme refers to how to manage agency and uphold freedom in all its nuances, e.g. the freedom to create uncensored work, to interpret worldviews, values, beliefs, emotions and dreams without constraint. To dare take new paths at the risk of getting lost. To improvise and sketch freehand without knowing the result in advance.
Photography has always been about the human gaze and the human imprint. About choosing what to reveal and what to leave out. At a time when images are increasingly produced automatically, questions of the human touch, intention and presence have become more relevant than ever. The work of the hand is inherently human – it is imperfect, but also unique.
