Open Call – sketch proposal for art at Sofiendal School. Aalborg Municipality has allocated DKK 450.000 for an art project at Sofiendalskolen. At six selected locations in the school’s original building, the art project will mark and create transitions between different functions and areas.
Outlined proposal sent via aalborg.dk in the municipality’s application system no later than Monday, April 20, 2026.
Aalborg Municipality is currently implementing a major extension and renovation of Sofiendalskolen, Lange Müllers Vej 18, 9200 Aalborg SV. The project has been designed by Norconsult, Nordic Office of Architecture.
In connection with the construction, an art project is desired that will mark and create transitions between different functions and areas at six selected locations in the school’s original building. The target group is primarily students in grades 3-7.
schedule
The complete renovation and extension of the school will take place from July 2025 until March 2027. Since the school is fully operational during this time, it will obviously require some reassignments. There is an opportunity to view the school on March 26 at 11 am and April 7 at 10 am. For inquiries, please contact sandra.krogh.larsen@aalborg.dk.
Conceptual sketch must be submitted no later than April 20th.
Final draft proposal must be submitted no later than Monday, June 15th – decision no later than June 24th
Art projects A, B, C, D, E and F will primarily be installed in week 42.
We are looking for an art project that addresses the target group and takes into account the school context. The six areas are characterized by being transitional areas with high visibility, so the art project must contribute to giving the areas a special identity, and thus also help the children find their way around the school. The six art projects can stand alone and function as markers between zones and guideposts, or they can incorporate artifacts from the schools’ historical collection or from the students. It is possible to involve individual classes in the process. For two of the areas, space must either be made for or seating must be incorporated.
Aalborg Municipality’s Art Committee has allocated DKK 450.000 + VAT for the art projects and 3 x DKK 25.000 for the qualification of three selected proposals.
The art project, which consists of six works of art, six different locations at the school, in one overall art project, must:
be durable and of high quality in terms of idea, materials and design.
create recognition and coherence, and mark the school’s various departments
could be operated and maintained in a manner similar to normal building maintenance.
not pose any nuisance or danger and with an eye to children being the primary users. For example, it must not pose a fire hazard.
Mounted on wall/floor or ceiling.
The six areas are divided as follows:
See overview plan and color scheme at the bottom of the page: fineart.aalborg.dk

B. Must create transitions between administration/hallway and 7th grade: Color code – NCS S 3020-B50G
What the two markings have in common is that this is where you access the school from the main entrance.
The ceiling height for areas A and B is 2,55m for beams and 2,60m for ceiling.
C. Should create a transition between PLC and common area for 5th-6th grade: color codes – NCS S 3040-G50Y and NCS S 3020-G10Y
D. Must create transition between PLC and common area for 8th grade: color code – NCS S 3020-B
In area C, 2 x 4 seats must be created.
There is an existing seating staircase that we wish to preserve. The ceiling height for areas C and D is 7m (sloping roof slope).

F. Must create transition between PLC and common area for 9th grade: color code – NCS S 4020-B10G
Area E should also help form walking lines.
It is desired that 2 x 4 seats be established in connection with area E.
Towards area F, 2 x 4 seats must also be established.
The ceiling height for areas E and F is 7m (sloping roof slope).
The draft proposal must contain:
