Cultural Exchange EU <-> US

New opportunity for visual artist residency + cultural exchange. The Transatlantic Rising Stars Project (TRASP) is a three-year initiative funded by the European Union and led by the EU delegation to the United States. The project supports European artists by opening doors to American cultural life and creating opportunities for artistic development, creative exchange and increased visibility. At the same time, it supports American artists who wish to co-create with European colleagues.

This project links European talents with American peers, communities and the key players of the cultural sector. The purpose is to promote new artistic cabinets and create lasting relationships. By strengthening dialogue and collaboration between European and American artists, the project contributes to a more coherent transatlantic cultural space. These exchanges strengthen Europe’s cultural life through new partnerships and perspectives, while allowing American artists and communities to engage in diverse European voices, ideas and creative approaches.

The selected participants will become part of a network of current and former TRSP artists that aim to maintain connections, create new projects and open long-term opportunities on both sides of the Atlantic.

TRSP KUNSTNER RESIDENCY PROGRAM
Selected visual artists will take part in one of five American artist-in-residence programs for eight weeks in the spring of 2026 (April–May). In addition to being received as a community artist in residence, TRSP artists are given extensive support and program facilitation to collaborate with a locally anchored artist and engage deeply in the American community they become part of.

The artists receive additional support as members of TRSP Artist Cohort, where they participate in monthly virtual collections with the other TRSP artists as well as regular program follow-ups. The exact dates of the stay are determined in collaboration with the selected artists.

The residence locations in 2026 range widely – from a small fishing community on the Alaskan coast, to a thriving art center in the southern United States, a prairie town in the Midwest (with artist office in the town hall), an active ranch in the U.S. West and a millenuous trading station in red soil, which today houses one of the largest art markets in the United States.

The eight-week stay ends with a trip to Washington D.C., where each artist – along with their local collaborator and other TRSP participants in the music and film tracks – participates in a public summit and an exhibition that presents the works and processes developed during the residency.

RESIDENCE CONDITIONS
Each selected artist receives air travel and visa assistance, on-site accommodation, studio space, as well as access to the host institution’s facilities, equipment and networks. In addition, the artists receive a level fee for the duration of the stay as well as a material budget.
