Call for applications for 2018 institutional funding grants

Phileas supports ambitious projects within the field of contemporary art, with a dual focus: international artists exhibiting in Austria, and Austrian-based artists exhibiting internationally. We support the production of new work and its presentation, acquisitions for public collections, publication projects, symposia and educational programming.

Applications are only accepted from institutions. The deadline for applications is June 26, 2017. Applicants will be informed of a decision in October 2017. Please see our website.

Phileas is based in Vienna, Austria, and is funded by the contributions of a group of private individuals. Since it was founded in late 2014, Phileas has supported the following projects with museums, biennials and other institutions:

MAK, Vienna, for an exhibition of Thomas Bayrle
Secession, Vienna, for an exhibition of R. H. Quaytman
das weisse haus, Vienna, for its graduate curatorial internship programme
steirischer herbst, Graz, for an exhibition and performance by Walid Raad
78th Whitney Biennial, New York, for the participation of Ulrike Müller
documenta 14, Kassel and Athens, for the participation of one artist (name to be announced)

Phileas also organises an annual research trip for international curators and critics to artists’ studios and institutions in Austria. The next research trip will take place in November 2017.
